Our country. Fit for the future.
The national vision for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Germany
The movement Germany needs right now. The Olympic and Paralympic Games move the entire world. Above all, they have a great impact in and for the host country. They unite the nation, build confidence and motivate to give it all. They create connections and emotional moments far beyond the host country's borders. They inspire us, encourage us for the future and help us to look ahead with a positive mindset.
This is precisely why hosting them is a key goal for German sport policy! In applying to host the Games, we are already facing up to the challenges and changes in Germany. The overriding question is: how do we make our country fit for the future? We have great potential but sometimes see ourselves too pessimistically, given what we have to offer. At a time of increasing polarisation in society and pressing questions that will define our future, we are willing and able to provide an inspiring and unifying answer that will improve people's lives.
The Olympic flame can be the spark for our positive narrative for the future, for a movement made up of civil society, sports, business and all those who want to get involved. As the third-largest economy in the world, Germany has the creative energy needed to look to the future with confidence. We are a nation of innovation, engineering excellence and economic power. Our country has the strength to truly embrace the Olympic motto of "faster, higher, stronger together".
The lasting emotional legacy of the FIFA World Cup 2006 and of so many other major sports events show that hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Germany can strengthen our sense of unity and serve as a catalyst for change. The Games are an additional engine for renewal under the participation of many the driving shake-up of society as a whole towards a modern Germany. They provide us with a shared vision for a possible target date of 2036, 2040 or 2044. We want to motivate people in our country to become active participants in this movement, not just spectators. The Games will be a national shared project that shines far beyond our country's borders.
A vision for us – a role model for everyone.
We would host the Games in a country that is modernising, making economic and social progress, and developing solutions to the national and global challenges of the future. We would use the stage provided by global sport to send a strong message for European values and Olympic ideals, as well as for democracy, peace, diversity and inclusivity: Our Games are ecologically innovative, socially unifying and economically prudent.
